Creed Original Santal Review

Creed Original Santal, originally released in 1995 by the venerable House of Creed under the direction of master perfumer Olivier Creed.  The fragrance is unisex and inspired by Asia, falling squarely in the woody and oriental scent families.  As with almost all Creed fragrances, the scent is released in millesime strength, which is comparable to Eau de Parfum, the highest concentration possible with the exception of pure parfum.  This makes it last longer because each drop of this enchanting elixir is stronger.

It is no exaggeration to say that the Creed Original Santal is one of my favorite scents in the world, from any perfume house.  The bottle on my desk is already heavily used and I find myself enjoying the softer base notes hours after the first spritz was applied.

According to the official Creed literature, Original Santal is “made with heartwood essence of royal sandalwood trees from Mysore, India and other pure ingredients revered for their capacity to soothe.”  The top notes, middle notes, and base notes are as follows:

• Top Notes: Royal Indian Sandalwood, Cinnamon Evoking Calm and Home, Divine Coriander, Fragrant, Cleansing Juniper Berry
• Middle Notes: Tender Lavender, Leaves of the Absolute Orange Tree, Fragrant Rosemary, Revitalizing Ginger
• Base Notes: Soulful Tonka Bean, Dreamlike Vanilla
