Baldi of Florence, Italy, has released the ultimate luxury bathtub, made of precious purple amethyst and accented with 24 karat gold plated legs. The amethyst bathtub retails for 95,000 Euros, or $121,200 in the United States today. The company made matching tumbler, lotion dispenser, and soap dish.
Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz used in jewelry. The name comes from the Greek “intoxicated” because the ancient civilization thought that drinking alcohol out of an amethyst cup would prevent drunkenness. Up to 18th century amethyst was included in the cardinal, or most valuable, gemstones (along with diamond, sapphire, ruby, and emerald). However since the discovery of extensive deposits in locations such as Brazil, Amethyst has lost most of its value.
